What is Pointing?
Pointing can be defined as the finishing of mortar joints located between brick or stone. Over time the mortar between the bricks can fail due to weather and other circumstances such as incorrect material being used as part of initial installation, resulting in shortened material life, requiring reinstatement repairs to be conducted in order to ensure the structure’s integrity.
Unlike Portland mortar, lime is softer and porous, this guards against brickworks damage by spalling or trapped moisture resulting in damp issues forming.
