The verge is a crucial part of the roof that is often forgotten. What is a verge? A verge is the part of your roof located on the gable end of your property that requires mortar to hold the roof tiles in place. Over time the mortar becomes weathered and starts to crumble, resulting in roof tiles becoming unstable.

How is the work conducted?
The original verge mortar is taken out, after this process new mortar is then mixed on site and the verge is then re-mortared providing stability and protection against the elements.
This is a photo taken by Liam Taylor Roofing on a recent job that was undertaken, showing how easy it is to lift a ridge tile that has no mortar holding it in place. Liam was called out to investigate a roof leak; upon inspection it was found that the cause of the leak was due to no mortar on the ridge tiles, not only does mortar secure the ridge tiles in place, it acts as a barrier to stop water from entering the roof space. Without a secure bed of mortar, ridge tiles can present a safety concern in high winds as well as making your roof susceptible to water damage.
